This is Eliot Porter's work

All the pictures are easy to see and the background in the back really adds a nice flair to it. These pictures are very unique from each other and have a very distinct colors from each other. It really shows how talented Porter really is.

  1. His artwork seems to catch the beauty of nature. This kinda gave me some inspiration to travel. Maybe to a park and just look around and take some pictures. Since fall is approaching, I can take some pictures of colored leaves on trees and on the ground. His photographs look really beautiful because it captures how might some of the landscapes are shaped by natural occurrences. Great job on the descriptions for each photograph

This is my first attempt at the Batory design ideas. I had an idea of a cigarette but I was not sure what to do with it then I thought why not combine food and cigarette together I decided to use chips which is very similar to cigarettes.
I used Photoshop for this design and I used the merge tool to make it look like the chips are inside the pack. For the background, I used a merged colour that matches the colour of the design.

Analyzing a poster for an event

This is a Halloween party event in Washington, Virginia, USA. This event is in Tavern restaurant and it will take place on the 31 October. I really like this poster because of the colors and how it's very clear. The type is bracketed serif and the baseline is not straight it's tilted. The letters are clear and They are in capital letters which makes the letter bigger. the small text and the date is sanserif and they used different colors.

Task 1 Binary Opposition

  • What is Binary Opposition in media?
Binary Opposition is everything that is opposite. For example old vs young, poor vs rich, villain vs hero. This is used a lot in movies and stories.  The terms are related but opposite.

  • Which Theorist produced this theory and give some details about them.
In the 1900s, the French anthropologist Levi Strauss proposed the theory of "binary oppositions", stating that most narratives in media such as books and films feature opposing protagonists.

  • Why do producers use binary opposition in media texts?
These binary oppositions help condense the plot and move the narrative forward, and introduce contrast. For example, in a superhero movie, it might be good and evil, in a horror movie it might be human versus supernatural, in a comedy it might be young versus old.

  • List some common oppositions used in tv, film, and music
Very common oppositions are poor vs rich, hero, vs villain in movies, young vs old, and healthy vs sick or unwell these are a few examples of oppositions used in tv, film, and music. These oppositions are very important and are used a lot because they will make the story or the video or whatever more interesting and make people follow the actions and understand.

Copy one or two example images and briefly describe the elements, color, use of shape, photography, typography

In these images, you can the two different sides of the edit. What I really like about Batory and what I am really inspired by is that he gets two different images or objects and combines them together to make a unique design. He uses different colors for the background and he also adds shadows. The letters are not capitalized and they are all sanserif.

• Give your opinion, what do you think about the design? What do you like about it?

• What could you use in your own work?

Auther theory

What are examples of author theory?
Author theory is a way of looking at a film, arguing that the director is the "author" of the film. The author theorizes that a film reflects the director's artistic vision; thus, a film directed by a particular filmmaker will have recognizable, recurring themes and visual queues to inform audiences who the director is (think Hitch Kirk or Tarantino’s films) and a consistent artistic identity throughout the director’s entire film work. The term "authority" is attributed to the critics of the French film magazine Cahiers du cinéma, many of whom became directors of the French New Wave. However, according to NYU professor Julian Cornell, the concept has been around for a while. Critics of the Handbook have only distilled the theory.

Evaluation

  • Summarise your aim and audience as an introduction
For my project, I choose to create a poster about my favorite childhood amusement park called Liseberg. Liseberg is located in Gothenburg, Sweden. A lot of teenagers visits the park between the age of 14 to 18. So my target audience is teenagers.

• Describe your final items. What influenced you to do this as your final products? (Mention some research/skills/strengths, include use of primary research)

So my final item is a poster for a Halloween event in the Swedish amusement park in Liseberg. This was my first idea and I decided to stick to it. Halloween is my favorite time of the year in Liseberg  I have a lot of memories from there so I decided to bring those memories back from Liseberg with this poster. I did some interviews for primary research

• Did you make a plan and follow it? If you deviated from your plan, explain why and how.

My plan was to create a poster event about Halloween in Liseberg and i did not deviate from my plan. I thought it will be perfect for me because I have been there many times so it will be easier for me to create this poster. I followed my plan also because at the time I created the poster it was Halloween so it will be perfect time.

• How did you create your products? Tools/techniques/programs you used.

My posters including the social media one I used Photoshop and the Photoshop tools. I also got my images from Google and a lot of my information from the Liseberg website Because they have a Halloween section that describes the what happens in Halloween at Liseberg. In Photoshop I used different tools and techniques to create my poster for example I used the magic wand to remove the background of different images and I also used the paint bucket tool to save me time from using the brush. I mainly used the horizontal type and my type is sanserif.

For my pumpkin in the logo i created it with the circle tool that I filled with orange and the pen/brush tool to create the face of the pumpkin. The stem/pumpkin handle was not from me, I used a different image and cut the stem from it and used it in my pumpkin. The pumpkin stands for O in Halloween. I used a curtain to make the focus on the subject which is the pumpkin guy and the information in the middle of the poster. To make it darker and scarier i used the paint brush top darken the curtain edges, I used black and Dark red to give it a scary look

• What form was your research, both primary and secondary? How did it influence your final products and why?

For my research I used both Primary and Secondary research. For my primary research I interviewed a lot of people in liseber and many of my friends as well and asked them about Liseberg and what they think I got different opinions on Liseberg but Halloweeen in liseberg was almost everyone’s favorite because there are many events.

I also used a lot of my knowledge for information because I’ve been there many times
For secondary research I mainly used the Liseberg app and Liseberg website because there is plenty of information there. The statistics and the dates of the event are in the liseberg website which helped me get more information.

I used all of this information to decide what event to pick and the primary research  helped me a lot because it gave me a lot of ideas of what people think about Liseberg and Halloween was peoples favourite.

• Were there any problems? What did you do to overcome them?

At the beginning I had problem with finding the right background because the edges were very bright and i did not like the colour of it so I used an image of curtains to cover the sides And it looked a lot better. I also had a problem choosing the right type colour. I used a sanserif type but i used a dark colour and the background is dark so it was hard to see what it says. I uploaded a before and after image from my changes.

• What went well with the products? How well did you complete the products? What standard is it? Does it communicate your ideas well? How/why?

Overall I am pretty satisfied with my product. My ideas is to always keeping the product simple and basic but good looking with important information. I used quotes To catch the costumers eye. My first attempt was not the best but the second one was perfect and I am happy with it. The colours for me where perfect and the type matched the scary vibe of Halloween. I used many pumpkins which made the posters more scary and interesting. Liseberg is in Sweden and I am from Sweden so why not create a product from my country.

• What went less well? Is it messy? Not what you wanted? Not finished? Why do you think this happened?

The one thing that went less well is the scarecrow if I had the chance I would change it because it doesn't fit perfectly. Both the color and the design of it could be changed

• If you were to repeat the process again, what would you do differently and why?
